A ratio is a comparison of two or more numbers that indicates their sizes in relation to each other. Most of the time we use the punctuation sign colon(:) to separate the values.
While a fraction represents part of the whole thing.
Formula to convert a fraction to a ratio.
- Write the numerator of the fraction as the first term of the ratio.
- Then the denominator as the second term of the ratio, after the colon.
- And lastly simplify the ratio.
Example:
Convert 2/6 into a ratio.
The numerator becomes the 1st term.
= 2 :
Then the denominator becomes the second term.
= 2 : 6
When we simplify we get,
= 1 : 3
