Formula to Convert Acres to Square Miles.
To convert acres to sq. mi, we need to know the conversion ratio which we get from how they relate to each other.
We are told that 1 sq. mi is equal to 640 acres. Therefore, to convert acres to sq. mi, we divide the acres value by 640. Also we can use the vice versa of this where we say that 1 acre is equal to 0.001563 square miles.
Area in sq. mi = Area in Acres ÷ 640
Area in sq.mi = Area in Acres x 0.001563
Example1:
Convert 500 acres to square miles.
= 500 ÷ 640
= 0.78 square miles.
Example 2:
Calculate the area of a piece of land in square miles if given 9,600 as its ares in acres.
We will convert the area from acres to sq.mi by multiplying it by 0.001563.
= 9,600 x 0.001563
Therefore, the area in sq.mi is 15.
