Mortality rate or death rate is a measure of the frequency of occurrence of death in a defined population during a specified interval.
Formula to calculate mortality rate.
To calculate a death rate the number of deaths recorded is divided by the number of people in the population, and then multiplied by 100, 1,000 or another convenient figure.
Example:
Suppose in a town 300 death were recorded, the towns population before the deaths was 700. Calculate the towns mortality rate.
Thus, the mortality rate is 42.9%.
