Before discussing how to convert qt to gallons, lets define them first. Both a gallon(gal) and quarts(qt) are units of capacity. A gallon is used to measure very large volumes of liquids.
Three kinds of quarts are currently used: the liquid quart and dry quart of the US customary system and the imperial quart of the British imperial system. All are roughly equal to one liter.
Formula to convert Quarts to Gallons.
To convert qt to gal, we need to know how they are related.
We say that 1 quart is equal to 0.25 US quarts.
Therefore, to convert qt to gal, we multiply the qt by 0.25 or simply divide the qt by 4.
Capacity in gal = Capacity in qt x 0.25
Example 1:
Convert 28 quarts to gallons.
= 28 x 0.25
= 7 gallons.
Example 2:
Convert 2 qt to gallons.
= 2 รท 4
= 1/2 gallons.
