Prior to discussing how to convert watts to joules per second, lets define a watt and a joule. Watt is a unit of power and it measures the amount of energy an item needs to function while a joule is the SI unit of work or energy and is equal to the work done by a force of one newton acting through one meter.
Joule per second is the unit of action or of angular momentum.
A watt is equivalent to one joule per second.
Formula to Convert Watts to Joules per Second.
Since we know that 1W is equal to 1J.s. Therefore, to convert W to J.s, we multiply the W value by 1.
Example 1:
Convert the energy of a 60W bulb to J/sec.
= 60 x 1
= 60 J.s
Example 2:
Convert 0.01 watts to J/sec.
1W = 1J/sec
= 0.01 x 1
= 0.01 joules per second
Example 3:
Convert 1000 watts to J/s.
1W = 1J/sec
= 1000 x 1
= 1000 J/s
